CURRENT TOURING PROJECTS

Laurie AndersonOne of the seminal artists of our time, Laurie Anderson's genre-crossing work encompasses performance, film, music, installation, writing, photography, and sculpture.

"Laurie Anderson is a singer-songwriter of crushing poignancy-- a minimalist painter of melancholy moods who addresses universal themes in the vernacular of the commonplace."
- Rolling Stone

DELUSION
Conceived as a series of short mystery plays, Delusion jump-cuts between the everyday and the mythic. Combining violin, electronic puppetry, music and visuals, Delusion tells its story in the colorful and poetic language that has become Anderson's trademark. Inspired by the breadth of Balzac, Ozu and Laurence Sterne, and employing a series of altered voices and imaginary guests, Anderson tells a complex story about longing, memory and identity. At the heart of Delusion is the pleasure of language and a terror that the world is made entirely of words.

Delusion was commissioned by VANCOUVER 2010 CULTURAL OLYMPIAD, Vancouver; BARBICANBITE10, London.

With additional support from BAM for the 2010 Next Wave Festival; Cal Performances UC Berkeley; Stanford Lively Arts, Stanford University, generously supported by Sarah Ratchye and Ed Frank. Additional production support and residency provided by the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer.

ANOTHER DAY IN AMERICA
Continuing her groundbreaking work with voice filters, story telling, and music Another Day in America will feature Anderson's stories about life in contemporary America.

Politics, desire, portraits of cities and people combine with Anderson's hallucinatory use of language to make up an epic description of the current American landscape.

"Politicians are essentially story tellers. They describe the world as it is and also as they think it should be. As a fellow story teller, it seems like a really good time to think about how words can literally create the world." Illusion, memory and the shifting states of American culture have been Anderson's subjects since the late '70's.

Another Day in America will take on the volatile present. The evening will feature electric violin, keyboards and electronics. Solo violin pieces such as the Grammy nominated Flow from Homeland will mix with fuller electronic soundscapes to create an intimate look into the song writing style that has made Anderson one of the most original American song writers.

TRANSITORY LIFE: A RETROSPECTIVE OF SONG AND STORIES
This collection of songs and stories includes pieces from Anderson’s acclaimed solo shows The Speed of Darkness, Happiness, The End of the Moon and Homeland.

In an intimate evening of voice, electronics and violin, Anderson spins offbeat adventure stories with her characteristic wit and poignancy. The evening also features her solo violin pieces which have become increasingly complex and symphonic.

"This is a great chance for me to put together a couple of decades of my favorite stories and songs. It’s wild to see them next to each other. They tell a whole different story."
